An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is a document that details the energy performance of a building based on the standardised way that the building is used.
The EPC intends to provide owners with better and more accurate information about the carbon dioxide emissions from their building.
The energy legislation was recently introduced in Scotland. Any building brought to market will now require an Energy Performance Certificate. If the building is put on the market without an EPC; the owner will face penalty charges (of up to £200). Furthermore, any buildings when constructed, sold or rented out will require a certificate.
A sample EPC document can be found here. For more information regarding EPCs and to help you to understand the requirements, visit our FAQs section.
